On 12 October 2022, the Parent Resident Visa will resume with reduced requirements for sponsors.

On 14 November 2022, Immigration will begin selecting previously submitted expressions of interest (EOI).

The number of visas available per year will increase from 1000 to 2500.

Changes for sponsors
The income level required for people sponsoring their parents is reduced. In addition, Immigration allows two adult children to use their income to co-sponsor parents, rather than only one adult child and their spouse.

Instead of earning double the New Zealand median wage, a sponsor should now make 1.5 times that amount. This limit raises by half the median wage for each new parent or co-sponsor.

Existing expressions of interest and those submitted from 12 October 2022 are subject to these new requirements.
